Both have the same power output. But you’ll notice that the X-530 has volume controls and headphone jack on one of the satellite speakers, whereas the X-540 has a remote pod. Also, the X-540′s satellite drivers are protected by a plastic mesh, and its subwoofer’s diaphragm fires downwards (bass tends to carry better when bouncing off a hard surface, such as floor or wall). Also, I believe the X-530 may have been discontinued, while the X-540 is still in production.

I own the X-540 myself and find it to be be more than adequate for my PC and bedroom TV. Note that both modelshave 3.5 mm headphone jack interfaces, and are primarily designed for computer usage; the 5.1 signal is carried on 3 different 3.5 mm headphone jack cables. You can use it on your PS3 and/or LCD using the included Y-adapter, but you will only have stereo audio, though using the Matrix feature can create virtual surround sound. Note that it won’t work on a TV without analog audio outputs, either red/white RCA outputs (either fixed or variable audio out) or a headphone jack.
